Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Restored Circa 1939 Art Deco Waterman Model #513J Jet Black Celluloid Fountain Pen with Keyhole NIB. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. The 513J Waterman Model is an uncommon writing instrument - not easy to acquire.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized, Silicone sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled 3 Ring Cap Banding, Gold Filled Waterman Clip, Gold Filled Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K Keyhole NIB.

This fountain pen is made from celluloid in Jet Black color with a pinstriped ink-view window. The black coloring is a deep black and has been polished to a fabulous shine. The barrel has the imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF. MADE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". The ends of the fountain pen cap and barrel have the stepped design which is an unusual feature for Waterman during this time period. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms on the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the celluloid. This Waterman #513J measures 5 1/8" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted. The lever is crisp and clean with just a hint of wear. The Waterman Ideal Clip displays a touch of wear at the very top portion of the clip. The gold filled cap banding does not display any brassing.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly and as it originally intended to.

This Waterman has a 14K IDEAL Keyhole Nib. This Nib writes extremely smooth and has great responsiveness. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .83mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a medium line with very light pressure measuring roughly .64mm and will flex upwards to a double broad stroke of 1.48mm with firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is vintage Waterman #513J Fountain Pen is an uncommon model that is not often available and is in ready to write condition. I would consider the condition of this fountain to be very fine to excellent. These later Waterman numbered models are increasingly difficult to acquire, especially in this condition. This Keyhole Nib and Fountain Pen is a fantastic collector grade writing instrument to add to your writing arsenal collection!
