Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1923 Waterman 55V Black Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with 18K Gold Filled Trim. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. This Waterman 55V is a very uncommon Waterman size that is a tougher variant for collector's to acquire.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap. Cleaned, Buffed, and Polished the outside of the cap and barrel to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the hard rubber. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Clip, Cap Banding, and Lever Box assembly along with the Waterman Ideal 14K #5 NIB. The Waterman Cap Clip has been polished and only show a hint of wear on the high point of the ball of the clip. The Cap Banding displays no wear and polished to shine bright. The lever arm and Globe imprint display some wear to the gold-filled material but has been polished to shine brightly.

This fountain pen is made from smooth black hard rubber. The coloring is great deep black color. The barrel has a fair to light imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "PAT'D 1884 MAY 23 1899 WATERMAN'S FOUNTAIN PEN N.Y. U.S.A. PAT'D MAY 23, 1899 & AUG 3, 1903 U.S.A". The butt end of the fountain pen has a clean and crisp 55V imprint.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There are no personalizations or monograms either the cap or the barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman 55V is the same girth as a 55 or 7 Waterman. This 55V measures 4 5/8" in length capped and 6" posted.

The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. In my tests with water, the filling system works flawlessly.

This Waterman 14K Ideal Nib has a #5 Manifold Nib that is very rigid but writes smoothly. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K Ideal NIB, it measures with a medium point of .83mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .44mm on the horizontal strokes and .70mm on all other strokes when I measured with digital calipers. The Manifold Nib is a pleasure to write with and does so very smoothly. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

Waterman 55V models are uncommon and makes this Fountain Pen a desirable model for collectors trying to round out all the Waterman models. This antique Waterman 55V Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition and I would consider the condition of this fountain in Very Fine to Excellent condition. Certainly, a collector grade writing instrument to add to one's writing arsenal collection.
