Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this uncommon Restored Circa 1925 Eisenstadt Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Hand polished the Gold Filled Clip and Lever Assembly along with the Eisenstadt 14K #2 Flexible NIB.

NOTE: Under Sheaffer's influence, in the middle 1920s, the Eisenstadt company decided to get into the fountain pen business. Offering reverse action lever filler, Eisenstadt pens were of high quality. The pens were sold  based on a word capacity basis with the larger pen, the #8, advertised to write 30.000 words with one filling! The company did not survive the Great Depression and appears to have ended in the early 1930s.

This fountain pen is made of black hard rubber with very good chasing. The chasing is a clustered straight line groups repeating around the cap and barrel. The cap is a screw-on type and secures tightly to the barrel. The Gold Filled trim has all been polished to shine brightly and does not display any wear. The hard rubber displays a consistent black coloring from cap and barrel. The barrel is stamped, "EISENSTADT MFG. CO. PAT. PENDING 2 ST. LOUIS, MO U.S.A. with EISENSTADT "E" logo on the left side of the imprint". There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Eisenstadt Fountain Pen is a #2 size fountain pen and measures 4 1/4" in length capped and 5 1/2" posted.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I added a new sac to the pen. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills. Remember the lever is a reverse action fill type - one lift the lever where the lever end is closest to the nib.

This Eisenstadt has a fantastic #2 Flexible 14K Nib. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .78mm when measured with digital calipers - a medium nib point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a medium to triple broad line measuring roughly .61mm with light pressure to 2.19mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Montblanc Blue Ink.

These Eisenstadt Fountain Pens are extremely difficult to find since they were produced for a short period of time. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to easily grade in Excellent condition. An uncommon example with great color, excellent chasing, clean imprints, and flexible nib that would be a fabulous addition to one's writing instrument stable.
