Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this spectacular Restored Circa 1927 Waterman #55 Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen fitted with a #5 Waterman Fully Flexible 14K nib. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, a new sac added, put back together, and is now in great writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the feed and section. I hand-cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. I have cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new sac. I hand-polished the nickel-plated Waterman Clip, Cap Banding, Lever Box Assembly, and the Waterman 14K #5 nib.

This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber in a chased pattern. The coloring is gorgeous displaying deep black coloring with no oxidation. The chasing is spectacular being very crisp. The lever box assembly is crisp and clean with "IDEAL" on the lever easily seen with the naked eye with no wear  The Waterman Ideal Clip-Cap clip and cap banding displays no wear. All Nickel trim has been polished to shine brightly once again. This Waterman 55 barrel has fantastic clean and crisp barrel imprints that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. WATERMAN GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF. FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen has a clean and crisp 55 imprint. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalization to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman #55 measures 5 1/2" in length capped and 7" posted.

The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly and as it was originally intended to.

This Waterman has a WATERMAN #5 14K fully flexible nib. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .64mm when measured with digital calipers - a medium nib point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with an Extra Fine to Triple Broad stroke/line variation. The extra fine line measures roughly .40mm with light pressure on the horizontal strokes and the triple broad strokes measure at 1.85mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

This antique Waterman #55 Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen doesn't get much better in terms of condition. The chasing and imprint on this pen are Near Mint to Mint condition - it is hard to believe this survived nearly 100 years in the condition this pen is in today! This Waterman #55 Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen is in ready-to-write condition or just add it to your writing arsenal collection. It is certainly a collector-grade example!
