Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Restored 1927 Waterman #56 Red Ripple Hard Rubber Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Before I go into the details of the pen, I will point out this Waterman came from the late, great Gary Lehrer collection roughly 7 years ago. The pen is Canadian, it is bandless, the hard rubber is a bit of a cross between ripple and mottled and very unique, and the unusual feature on this pen is the top of the cap. You will see a grooved circle. This is the first and only time I have seen this on a Waterman pen. All of these factors create a Waterman that is very unusual and unique.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand-cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. I have cleaned, buffed, and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new rubber sac. I have hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Waterman Clip, Gold Filled Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K #6 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in a Red Ripple/Mottled pattern. The coloring is gorgeous displaying deep red and black coloring. The lever box assembly is very clean with "IDEAL" on the lever and no wear of the gold-filled material. The Waterman Ideal Clip-Cap displays just a hint of wear on the ball of the clip. All of the 18K Gold FIll trim has been polished to shine brightly once again.

This Waterman 56 barrel has a clean imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "PATENTED AUG 9, 1906 WATERMAN'S IDEAL GLOBE LOGO FOUNTAIN PEN CANADA FEB. 9, 1909". The butt end of the fountain pen has a crisp number "56" imprint. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalization to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman #56 measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 6 7/8" posted.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly and as it was originally intended to.

This Waterman has a 14K Gold WATERMAN IDEAL #6 Manifold Nib. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .62mm when measured with digital calipers - a medium nib point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine to medium stroke/line variation. When writing with this pen the line ranges from a fine (.55mm) to medium (.62mm) line variation. This nib is rigid but writes very smoothly. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

This antique Waterman #56 Red Ripple Hard Rubber Fountain Pen is in great condition and is ready to write. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to grade in Excellent+ to Near Mint condition and certainly, a very difficult Waterman Model to acquire with the unique features. This is a collector-grade Waterman with amazing coloring and clean imprints. This Waterman #56 Fountain Pen is in ready-to-write condition or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.
