Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1927 Waterman 52V Rose Ripple Fountain Pen with 18K Gold Filled Trim. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

I have cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized silicone sac. Hand polished the Waterman Ideal 18K Gold Filled Clip, Cap Banding, and Ideal lever box assembly along with the flexible Ideal 14K #2 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the scarce Rose Ripple pattern. The color of the rose ripple ebonite is very clean and displays extremely vibrant. The fountain barrel has a strong, clean imprint on the side of the barrel that, "WATERMAN'S REG US IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF. FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen displays a strong 52V imprint. The 18K Gold Filled Waterman Ideal Clip and the cap banding are extremely clean with no wear. The IDEAL lever assembly is clean with no wear.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks, repairs to the hard rubber, and the color displays vibrantly - an extremely clean pen. This Waterman measures 4 3/8" in length capped and 5 5/8" posted.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and works.

The NIB on this Waterman is a 14K - #2 size. The NIB writes with a fine point and can flex up to a triple broad stroke - it does have great flexibility and responsiveness. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K #2 Ideal NIB, it measures at .68mm with digital calipers - a medium point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .47mm with very light pressure on the horizontal strokes and flexes up to a triple broad stroke 2.03mm with firm to medium pressure. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

This is Circa 1927 Waterman Rose Ripple Fountain Pen is an extremely tough model to acquire without any cracks or damage as the material was known to be fragile. I would consider this fountain to grade in excellent+ condition. This Rose Ripple is collector grade and certainly would be a fine writing instrument to add to your writing arsenal collection.
