Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa late 1933 Waterman Patrician Fountain Pen with Nickel Plated Trim in Nacre (Black & Pearl) Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, a new sac added, put back together, and is now in fantastic writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. I hand-cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap. I cleaned, buffed, and polished the outside of the cap and barrel to bring back the vibrancy of the material and to protect the celluloid. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no personalizations or monograms either the cap or the barrel. There are no cracks, nicks, or repairs to the celluloid. I polished the clip and Cap Banding, and Waterman Patrician 14K NIB. The Clip has been polished but displays some wear. The cap banding displays some wear as well. This Waterman Patrician measures 5 1/2" in length capped and 6 7/8" posted.

The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. I replaced the old sac with a new latex rubber sac. The filling system works as it was originally intended to. The lever assembly does not display any wearing of the nickel-plated material.

This fountain pen is made from celluloid in the Nacre pattern comprising of black and pearl celluloid, black section, feed, cap lip, and ends. The black and pearl celluloid coloring does display some discoloration as displayed in the images. The barrel has more discoloration than the cap.

The barrel is stamped at the center of the barrel, albeit sightly worn, that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen has the Waterman medallion.

This Waterman Patrician has an enormous 14K nib that writes smoothly with a semi-flexible nib (fine to double broad). When measuring the actual tip of the Patrician NIB, it measures at a medium point of .84mm when using digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .46mm with very light pressure and flexes up to double broad stroke of 1.23mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. I have to add that the Patrician Nib writes smoothly with great responsiveness. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

These Waterman Patrician Fountain Pens are scarce and desirable. This one is in ready to write condition after my restoration and I would consider the Fountain Pen to be in excellent user grade condition. The Nacre celluloid is hard to find clean but if you are looking for a great writing example to add to your arsenal you might want to consider this Patrician with a great writing nib.
