Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Circa 1942 Waterman Stalwart Grey Pearl Celluloid Fountain Pen with gold-filled trim fitted with a 14K nib. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition.

The Stalwart unquestionably embodies the classic design elements of 1940s Waterman pens, featuring the distinctive stepped clip, the boxed lever, and the "Ideal" stamped nib. Notably, the 14K Ffine nib was a coveted attribute during the 1940s, delivering a consistently smooth with a hint of flexibility. The advertising catalogs and advertisements I have researched show the Stalwart was in production from 1942 to 1948.

This fountain pen is made from celluloid in a Grey Pearl celluloid color. The barrel has a very crisp imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO MADE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA".

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new rubber sac. I hand-polished the Gold Filled Cap Band, Clip, and Lever Box Assembly along with the Ideal 14K #2 Nib. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There are no monograms on the barrel. The clip, cap banding, and lever box display no gold-fill wear. This Waterman Stalwart measures 5" in length capped and 5 7/8" posted.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. The filling system works as it was originally intended to.

The actual 14K Waterman NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .58mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a fine to a medium stroke/line variation. In the writing sample provided, the fine line measures .45mm (with light pressure) and will range up to a medium stroke that measures .70mm with firm pressure when measuring with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Blue Ink.

This vintage Waterman Stalwart Fountain Pen is in ready-to-write condition. I would say this fountain pen is in Excellent condition and a wonderful Waterman writing instrument to use as an everyday writer.
