Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Scarce Restored Circa late 1920s Waterman Patrician Fountain Pen with Gold Filled Trim in Nacre (Black & Pearl) Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap. Cleaned, Buffed, Polished, and Waxed the outside of the cap and barrel to bring back the vibrancy of the material and to protect the celluloid. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There are no personalizations or monograms either the cap or the barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the celluloid. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, rubber sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Clip, Cap Banding, and Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman Patrician 14K NIB. This Waterman Patrician measures 5 1/2" in length capped and 6 7/8" posted.

The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. It works as it was originally intended to. The lever does display some wearing of the gold filled material. The Clip has been polished and also displays some wear. The cap banding is in excellent condition displaying no brassing or wear.

This fountain pen is made from celluloid in the Nacre pattern comprising of black and pearl celluloid, black section, feed, cap lip, and ends. The black and pearl celluloid coloring does displays some discoloration as displayed in the images.

The barrel is clearly stamped at the center of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen has the Gold Plated Waterman medallion.

This Waterman Patrician has an enormous 14K nib that writes smoothly with a fully flexible nib (fine to triple broad). When measuring the actual tip of the Patrician NIB, it measures at a medium point of .81mm when using digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .56mm with very light pressure and flexes up to triple broad stroke of 1.99mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. I have to add that the Patrician Nib writes extremely smooth with great responsiveness. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

These Waterman Patrician Fountain Pens are scarce and desirable. This one is in ready to write condition after my restoration and I would consider the Fountain Pen to be in excellent user grade condition. The Nacre celluloid is hard to find clean but if you are looking for a great writing example to add to your arsenal you might want to consider this Patrician with a fully flexible nib.
