Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this extremely scarce Circa 1900 Waterman #15 Black Hard Rubber Eyedropper Filler in the Fine Silver Art Nouveau Overlay. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. Extremely rare Waterman Fountain Pen

Hand cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel along with the 14K Waterman No. 5 Nib.

This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with the Fine Silver (.999/1000) Art Nouveau Overlay. The barrel is stamped with, "WATERMAN'S IDEAL FOUNTAIN PEN" on one end of the barrel and "FINE SILVER" on the other end - which is nearly worn away (see images). All the Fine Silver Overlay has been polished to shine brightly. The Slip Cap is always securing tightly to the barrel. There is a monogram in the cartouche area on the barrel with the initials, "H.K.". There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber or the Fine Silver overlay. This Waterman measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 7 3/8" posted.

This Waterman Fountain Pen is an Eyedropper Fill type. One unscrews the section and added ink into the barrel via an eyedropper. I have tested the filling system and works as it was originally intended to.

The Waterman Fountain Pen has a great No. 5 Ideal 14K New York Nib. The iridium tipping is in very good condition with the point measuring .79mm when measured with digital calipers - a medium nib point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a broad to triple broad stroke/line. The broad line measures roughly .91mm and will flex to a triple broad stroke/line of 2.19mm with medium pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This Waterman Fine Silver Fountain Pen is an extremely difficult fountain pen to acquire in the #15 Fine Silver Overlay and Size. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to grade in Fine to Very Fine condition. If you are a collector of these types of Fine Silver Art Nouveau Overlay Fountain Pens I would venture to guess this is one of those pens that would help to complete or added to your collection. Finding one of these early Waterman Fine Silver Overlays are extremely scarce to add to one's writing arsenal collection.
