Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this Restored circa 1920s Waterman 52 Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly size, #16 silicone sac. Hand polished the Nickel Plate Clip Cap and Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Ideal 14K #2 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with chasing. The chasing is seen easily with the eye with very good crispness; the cap appears to be more crisp than the barrel. The coloring is a beautiful black color. The barrel has a light imprint at the center and butt end of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S IDEAL GLOBE RED U.S.A. PAT. OFF. FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen has a crisp 52 imprint.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. There is a very tiny bit of Nickel plate loss on the box portion of the lever assembly, the actual lever does not have plating loss. The lever assembly filling unit works flawlessly and smoothly as it is designed to do. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever are crisp and clean.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There are no monograms on the barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. Tere is a light scratches at the buttend of the barrel. This Waterman 52 measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 5/8" posted. When measuring the actual tip of the Waterman 14K Ideal #2 NIB, it measures at .65mm with digital calipers.

When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line (on the horizontal lines in the writing sample) that measure roughly .53mm and flexes up to a triple broad line measuring 2.13mm (see image) with normal pressure, I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is an excellent, antique Waterman's 52 Fountain Pen that is in ready to write condition using the incredible flexible NIB. I would grade the Fountain Pen as Excellent to Fine Condition due to the minor scratch at the buttend of the barrel.
