Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this early Circa 1916 Waterman #15 Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with 14K Solid Gold Trim. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB and feed. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel, cap, and section with mineral oil. Cleaned the outside of the cap and barrel with mineral oil and the hard rubber displays a real deep black color with magnificent crisp chasing.

This fountain pen is made from black chased hard rubber. The barrel has great crisp imprints at the center that read, "PAT'D 1884 MAY 23 1899 WATERMAN'S FOUNTAIN PEN N.Y. U.S.A. PAT'D MAY 23, 1899 & AUG 3, 1903 U.S.A". The butt end of the fountain pen has a very crisp 15 PSF imprint. The cap is a screw-on type cap always securing tightly with a 14K Solid Gold IDEAL clip. The barrel has a solid 14K banding along with a 14K Lever and Lever Box Assembly. There are no monograms to the barrel, 14K barrel banding, or cap. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman #15 measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 7 1/8" posted.

The NIB is an awesome flexible Waterman 14K New York IDEAL #5. The actual tip of the Waterman 14K NIB measures .62mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with an extra fine line measuring .38mm on the horizontal strokes in the writing sample provided and flexes up to a triple broad+ stroke of 2.40mm with firm to medium pressure. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This Waterman #15 displays a deep black color, no oxidation to speak of. The 14K trim on the pen is in brilliant condition and the nib is spectacular in terms of full-flexibility. I would consider this Waterman #15 to easily grade in Excellent Condition and boarding on near mint condition. It is ready to write or just add to your writing arsenal collection
