Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this Restored 1920s Waterman 52 Red Ripple Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with Chrome Trim. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new rubber sac. Hand polished the Chrome Clip, Trim Cap Banding, Chrome Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Ideal 14K #2 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the red ripple design. The coloring is a great red and black color. The fountain barrel has a very faint, almost non-existent imprint at the center of the barrel, but the end is more crisp that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG US PAT. OFF. MADE IN U.S.A.". The butt end of the fountain pen has the 52 imprint.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman 52 measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 7/8" posted.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever is crisp and clean, no brassing. The Ball in the Clip has very minor brassing. The cap banding has only very minor brassing.

When measuring the actual tip of the 14K #2 Ideal NIB, it measured at .69mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a double extra fine line measuring roughly .28mm with very light pressure and flexes up to a triple broad stroke 1.93mm (see image) with normal to medium pressure, I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

I have handled roughly 125+ Waterman 52 Fountain Pens, this is the first with Chrome Trim I have seen. I am not saying it is rare, it is just a different variant that one does not see everyday.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is antique Waterman's 52 Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition using the incredible flexible NIB. I would consider the condition of this fountain in the extra fine to excellent condition and certainly a wonderful user grade writing instrument.
