For your consideration, we are honored to present for sale this never-inked 1999 Montegrappa Science & Nature Limited Edition Fountain Pen, number 124 of only 1,912 produced worldwide, fitted with an 18K Medium gold nib. Preserved in mint, New Old Stock condition, this pen remains exactly as it left Montegrappa’s workshop over two decades ago and is accompanied by all original factory boxes, literature, and documentation—a complete and highly desirable example.
Introduced at the close of the 20th century, Science & Nature marks the first release in Montegrappa’s ambitious trilogy dedicated to mankind. Conceived during a moment of global reflection at the dawn of a new millennium, this model symbolizes humanity’s enduring pursuit of equilibrium between scientific advancement and the natural world. The pen’s design reflects a poetic, almost nostalgic vision of Earth—a fragile blue jewel traveling through the vastness of the universe—and serves as both a writing instrument and a philosophical statement rendered in precious materials.
Crafted in resin, enameled sterling silver, the cap and barrel are adorned with intricately engraved low-relief imagery, brought to life through the meticulous application of vibrant, kiln-fired enamel on the barrel. The depth, precision, and clarity of the engravings are exceptional, showcasing Montegrappa’s mastery of traditional Italian silversmithing. The sterling silver clip has a genuine sapphire. Production was strictly limited to 1,912 examples, each individually numbered, underscoring the exclusivity and long-term collectibility of this edition.
This particular pen remains in unused, flawless condition. The sterling silver and enamel overlays are pristine, exhibiting no cracks, chips, scratches, dings, dents, wear, or repairs of any kind. The cap threads smoothly and secures firmly to the barrel. The sterling trim is crisply hallmarked with, “925, *1055VI, MONTEGRAPPA, MADE IN ITALY,” and the barrel end is engraved with the edition number 0124/1912. Measuring 5 3/4 inches capped and 7 1/8 inches posted, with a substantial yet well-balanced weight of 2.48 ounces, the pen offers a reassuring presence in the hand befitting of a flagship Montegrappa limited edition example.
The pen features a piston filling system, which has been carefully tested with water to confirm smooth and proper operation, exactly as designed. Fitted with an 18K gold Montegrappa nib, marked “18K/750, MONTEGRAPPA, M,” the nib’s iridium tipping measures approximately .82 mm (when measuring with digital calipers), aligning precisely with its Medium designation. As this pen has never been inked, the nib has been intentionally left untouched, preserving its originality for the next collector or future writing experience.
Included with the pen are the original Montegrappa Science & Nature presentation boxes along with all factory literature and documentation, each remaining in excellent condition—an increasingly rare complete package for a late-20th-century Montegrappa limited edition.
The Montegrappa Science & Nature Limited Edition Fountain Pen stands as a landmark creation. With its precious materials, symbolic design, and pristine, untouched condition, this example represents a high-cachet Montegrappa collectible that would serve as a cornerstone in any advanced Montegrappa or limited-edition fountain pen collection.
