For your consideration, we are pleased to offer for sale this 2024 Montblanc Writers Edition Jane Austen Fountain Pen, Limited Edition No. 720 of 8,000. This pen is in mint, New Old Stock condition, having never been inked, and is complete with all original packaging: the inner and outer book-style presentation boxes, Montblanc shipping carton, official literature including the International Service Certificate, and the original plastic sleeve in which the pen was housed.

Few authors in literary history possess the wit, irony, and insight of Jane Austen, one of English literature’s most beloved voices. In homage to her legacy, Montblanc has created the Writers Edition Homage to Jane Austen, a design that elegantly reflects the Regency era — a time of grand country estates, refined social rituals, and the delicate dance of courtship that her novels so brilliantly portrayed.

The sandstone-grey resin barrel is accented with the fluting of a classical column and engraved with Austen’s signature, evoking the architecture and refinement of her world. The grey-blue cap recalls the distinctive double-collared Regency coats worn by gentlemen like Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. Gold-coated rings on the barrel and platinum-coated fittings add subtle contrast and sophistication.

One particularly poetic detail is the engraving of Roman numerals XLIII on the cap ring — a reference to the chapter in Pride and Prejudice when Elizabeth Bennet first sees Mr. Darcy’s estate. Atop the cap, the phrase “By a Lady” — Austen’s original authorial credit on the title page of Sense and Sensibility — appears alongside the Montblanc emblem. The pen’s silhouette is inspired by a wax seal stamp, an elegant nod to historical correspondence.

The clip, designed to resemble a braided drawstring, takes inspiration from a reticule — the small handbag carried by women in Austen’s time, used to hold essentials like powder, a mirror, and a handkerchief. The crowning detail is the nib itself: a rhodium-coated, solid 18K gold (Au 750) medium nib, engraved with the only known silhouette of Jane Austen, capturing her refined features in stunning detail.

This fountain pen is in flawless, never-inked condition, showing no wear, blemishes, or signs of use. The piston-filling mechanism has been tested with water, lubricated, and confirmed to operate smoothly and correctly. There is no trace of ink in the nib or barrel.

The 18K nib is stamped “2024, 4810, 18K/750, Montblanc” and measures approximately 0.87mm at the tip (measured with digital calipers).

The pen measures approximately 5 7/8" capped. (Note: This model is not designed to be posted.)
