Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this restored Circa 1974 Montblanc Legrand No 146 MEISTERSTUCK Fountain Pen fitted with a 14C Oblique Double Broad nib. This fountain pen has been cleaned internally, buffed, polished, put back together, and now is in spectacular writing condition.

This Montblanc has the proper ebonite rounded feed, 14C Monotone Nib, single-unit barrel construction, solid blue clear ink window, no clip ring stamping, and black plastic filler mechanism. Based on these attributes, we can date this Montblanc 146 somewhere between 1973 to 1975.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the Gold Filled Clip and Cap Banding - there is some wear to the gold filled at the center ring. The clip ring shows show very minor wear and the blind cap trim ring shows the same very minor wear. The cap banding is stamped with, "MONTBLANC MEISTERSTUCK No 146". The transparency of the ink-view window is "Water Clear" and is a solid blue color. I have cleaned, buffed, and polished the cap and barrel. I also cleaned the internal components of this pen and greased the piston filler to work smoothly. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the barrel or cap. This Montblanc 149 Fountain Pen measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted.

I have greased and tested the piston filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The Piston Filling System works as it was intended and effortlessly.

The Montblanc NIB is a 14C/585 Monotone Semi-Flexible Oblique Double Broad nib. The 14K Montblanc NIB has a double broad point measuring roughly 1.25mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a smooth stroke that performs with a medium to double broad stroke/line. The writing sample provided in the image has a medium stroke measuring at .68mm and the double broad stroke measures roughly 1.35mm when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink. Again, I have to emphasize the performance of the nib and smooth it writes with a wet line - it is a fabulous nib to write with!

This is a wonderful example of the iconic Montblanc No. 146 Fountain Pen from the 1970s. These vintage Montblanc Fountain Pens are becoming increasingly more collectible and certainly harder to find and the Oblique Double Broad 14C Nib is a real standout! I would grade this 146 Montblanc in Fine to Very Fine Condition only due to the gold fill wear on the trim - it is polished brightly but there is some wear. It is ready to write with or just add to the writing arsenal collection.
