Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1951 Montblanc 204 Black Celluloid Fountain Pen with Ultra Smooth 14K - #4 Nib. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in excellent condition showing no chips, cracks, or repairs with the cap always secures tightly to the barrel. The cap has the Gold Filled Clip that displays no brassing. The Gold Filled cap banding displays no brassing either. The top of the cap has the snowcap and display wonderfully. The blind cap securely fits, turns open, and closes with ease. The blind cap has an almost non-existent imprint and I can only see it a hint of the number under magnification and it the proper light. There are no personalizations or monograms to either the cap or barrel. This Montblanc 204 measures 5 1/4" in length capped and 6 1/4" posted.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB and feed. Hand cleaned the cap, barrel, and section. Hand polished the Gold Filled trim and #4 Montblanc 14K NIB. I have Cleaned, Buffed, Polished and Waxed the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of fountain pen. The cap has the "MONTBLANC" heat stamp on the side that displays clearly. This 204 is an earlier version due to the Montblanc logo on the side of the cap and dates to circa 1951, the production of this model was manufactured from 1950 to 1954.

This Montblanc has a button filling system. The button filler is in working condition as it was originally intended to be used for. I have installed a new rubber sac and have tested the piston filler with water and works flawlessly.

The Montblanc NIB is a #4 - 14K Semi-Flexible Nib. I have to point out that this Nib is ultra-smooth, one of the top 5 smoothest nibs I have ever written with and that is saying along based on the hundreds of pens I have restored over the last two years. The NIB has a Medium/Broad point measuring roughly .91mm when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided in the image ranges from a medium line that measures .64mm under the lightest pressure to a triple broad line of roughly 1.85mm with medium to firm pressure when I measured with digital calipers. The Nib is very responsive, "springy", and writes smoothly. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This Montblanc 204 model is famous for its reliability, perfection in simplicity, both in design and functionality and most importantly famous for its performance and it is a very reliable writer.

I would grade this Montblanc 204 to be in Very Fine to Excellent Condition. It is a classic collectible fountain pen that would be a perfect addition to your fine writing arsenal collection.
