Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Mint Circa 1904 Parker #18 Red Mottled Hard Rubber Eyedropper Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and is now in wonderful writing condition. This is a very scarce Parker model to find, especially in this condition, which is Near Mint to Mint.

Hand cleaned the NIB and feed. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel, cap, and section with mineral oil. Cleaned the outside of the cap and barrel with mineral oil and the hard rubber displays a nice mottled color (red & black) with vibrant coloring.

This fountain pen is made from red mottled hard rubber. This is an Eyedropper Fountain Pen and that means you would unscrew the section to add the ink via an eyedropper. The barrel clean and crisp imprints at the center that read, "THE GEO. S. PARKER FOUNTAIN PEN JANESVILLE, WIS. U.S.A. PAT. JUNE 30, 91. JAN 9, 94. APL. 4, 99". The butt end of the fountain pen has the #18 imprint. The imprint is pre "Lucky Curve" which dates the pen to circa 1903 - 1904 catalogs have the Lucky Curve imprint on the barrel, 1903 does not.

The cap is a slip type cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Parker #18 measures 5 1/2" in length capped and 6 5/8" posted.

This Parker has the Lucky Curve Nib and feed. The actual tip of the Parker Lucky Curve 14K NIB measures .60mm with digital calipers, or a medium point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring .54mm and will flex to a triple broad stroke of 1.83mm with medium to firm pressure when being measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Montblanc Blue Ink.

This Parker #18 Mottled Red Hard Rubber Fountain Pen is a tough model to acquire. This is a scarce fountain pen made in the early 1900s and the condition is Near Mint to Mint Condition. The condition makes this pen a "unicorn" and will be a treasured writing instrument for the fine Parker Fountain Pen writing arsenal collection!
