Hannyashinkyo is one of the main doctrines of Buddhism, which was originally formed in India and adapted in Japanese. It is called "Mahayana Buddhism". "Mahayana Buddhism" was formed as a new version of Buddhism in the first century AD. It is the extension of the original Theravada Buddhism and was intended to appeal to a much wider population. It was intended to allow general people to join in with the central Buddist principles without requiring the deep meditation of Monastic life, which, Theravada originally demanded. This was not seen to be the creation of a new religion but as a recovery of the original teachings for the ordinary citizen.
The original text of Hannyashinkyo is written in Tibetan Sanskrit text. It was translated by a Priest into Chinese. It is known as Hannyashinkyo in Japanese. This is condensed into 266 characters of the 'Head Sutra", which appear on the pen itself.
The Sanskrit characters engraved on the pen Hannyashinkyo signify Spiritual Power for which the Buddhist scriptures are well known. The scriptures are used for many purposes such as Praying for the Souls of the dead, wishing good luck, and also in 'moral unification' through great wisdom and perception. Characters showing the special 'FIVE TATHGATA OF WISDOM' (Gochi Nyorai) are also engraved on the nib and cap ring.

Now, I did not open the cellophane wrapper that the fountain pen is in but it has a 21K gold Naginata Togi nib. The nib is hand crafted by Sailor's world-renowned Nib Designer Nobuyoshi Nagahara.
