For your consideration, we are excited to offer for sale this exceptional restored circa 1935 Wahl Eversharp Doric in the coveted Green Shell celluloid, fitted with a superb 14K fully flexible nib (Fine to Triple Broad). This is a second-generation Doric equipped with the advanced plunger-fill system—freshly restored, expertly serviced, and now performing exactly as this model was intended at the height of Wahl-Eversharp’s innovation.
This pen has been completely disassembled and meticulously restored. The nib, feed, section, and barrel were ultrasonically cleaned. The original packing unit has been replaced, along with a new plunger gasket and shut-off spring to ensure proper vacuum action and ink shut-off functionality. The gold-filled clip, wide cap band, and 14K nib have been carefully hand-polished, and only the slightest wear can be seen. The cap, barrel, and blind cap were cleaned, buffed, and polished to revive the depth and chatoyance of the Green Shell celluloid while preserving its integrity.
Cosmetically, this Doric presents beautifully. The cap and barrel are free from chips, cracks, teeth marks, or repairs. Threads are crisp, and the cap seats securely. The double-check mark seal is intact and sharp (not drilled out). The gold-filled clip retains strong color with only the faintest whisper of wear at the very top and bottom—minor and mentioned strictly for accuracy. The wide cap band remains bright with only light surface wear. The cap imprint “EVERSHARP MADE IN U.S.A.” is clearly legible on the backside.
Collector highlight: the barrel transparency is outstanding—near water-clear. The internal mechanism is highly visible, a feature that elevates this example well above average surviving specimens. There are no monograms or personalizations. The pen is the standard size and measures approximately 4 7/8 inches capped, 5 5/8 inches posted, and weighs 0.56 ounces—perfectly proportioned, with a balanced feel in hand.
The plunger vacuum filling system has been water-tested and operates exactly as it should, drawing and expelling ink efficiently while holding a generous capacity. The shut-off mechanism functions properly, sealing the ink chamber when engaged—one of the Doric’s most advanced features for its era.
This Doric is fitted with a magnificent 14K fully flexible nib. The tipping measures approximately 0.53mm at rest (Fine) when measured with digital calipers. Under controlled pressure, the nib will range from .46mm and expands dramatically to approximately 1.90mm (Triple Broad), delivering expressive line variation from delicate hairlines to bold, dramatic swells. The writing sample shown in the listing images was created with this very pen, dipped in Faber-Castell Cobalt Blue ink, and demonstrates both the smoothness and responsiveness of the nib. It writes effortlessly and with excellent snap-back—exactly what collectors seek in a true vintage flexible nib.
The Green Shell Doric remains one of the most iconic Art Deco fountain pen designs ever produced—faceted, architectural, and unmistakably American. Between its striking celluloid, near water-clear barrel transparency, freshly restored plunger system, and fully flexible nib, this example stands as a collector-grade piece in Excellent condition.
Whether destined for a serious vintage collection or to be enjoyed as a daily expressive writer, this Doric represents the golden age of American fountain pen craftsmanship—restored properly, performing beautifully, and ready for its next chapter.
