Widely regarded as one of the most desirable color variations in the Duofold lineage, this first-year Lapis example has been professionally restored, thoroughly cleaned, fitted with a new latex sac, and returned to superb writing condition while preserving its originality and collector appeal.
The Blue-on-Blue Lapis pattern was introduced for the Senior Duofold in 1927, making it a true first-year production color. By 1928, Parker had transitioned to the more familiar White-on-Blue pattern, leaving the original Blue-on-Blue version as one of the shortest-lived and most coveted Duofold variations. Fine examples have become increasingly difficult to locate, particularly those retaining such vibrant, even coloration.
As part of the restoration, the nib, feed, and section were ultrasonically cleaned, the sac replaced with a correctly sized new latex sac, and the filling system fully serviced. The gold-filled Parker clip, cap band, and 14K nib have all been carefully hand-polished, while the cap, barrel, and blind cap were meticulously cleaned, buffed, and polished to revive the rich luster of the celluloid while protecting the material for years to come.
This is the desirable Senior-size Duofold, measuring 5 1/2 inches capped, 6 1/2 inches posted, and weighing approximately 0.79 ounces—a substantial and perfectly balanced writing instrument.
The condition of this Duofold is nothing short of exceptional. The cap, barrel, and blind cap are free from chips, cracks, repairs, or structural issues. The gold-filled Parker clip, stamped "PAT. SEPT. 5-16," retains outstanding brilliance with no wear or brassing, while the cap band remains equally impressive with rich gold-filled color throughout. There are no monograms or personal engravings anywhere on the pen.
The barrel imprint is remarkably sharp and fully legible, which reads, "GEO. S. PARKER DUOFOLD FOUNTAIN PEN JANESVILLE, WIS. LUCKY CURVE U.S.A. PAT. 4-25-11."
Perhaps the greatest attribute of this example is its extraordinary Blue-on-Blue coloration. The celluloid displays rich, vibrant, and remarkably even color throughout, with no significant darkening—a characteristic seldom encountered after nearly a century. Finding a first-year Blue-on-Blue Senior with this level of color preservation is exceedingly uncommon.
The pen retains its original button-filling system, now restored with a new latex sac and pressure bar. The filling mechanism has been tested with water and operates flawlessly, filling exactly as Parker intended.
The original 14K Parker nib features a Fine point, measuring approximately 0.51 mm with digital calipers. During testing, the nib produces a smooth Fine line of approximately 0.47mm with light pressure and widens naturally to approximately 0.80mm under moderate/firm writing pressure. The writing sample shown was created using this exact pen after dip-testing with Faber-Castell Cobalt Blue ink, demonstrating the smooth, responsive character that has made Parker Duofolds legendary among collectors and writers alike.
