This exceptional example remains in Mint, Never Inked condition. It is accompanied by its original Parker 75 presentation box and an unused Parker-branded ink converter—an increasingly difficult fountain pen to encounter in this era.
Known among collectors as the “Rainbow”, the official designation for this model is Regency, produced for a brief and highly focused period from approximately 1973 to 1975. The design is distinguished by its elegant 18K gold-filled cap and barrel, which exhibit a soft, warm golden luster with remarkable depth and character. Produced in at least two distinct variations—one featuring four tones of gold, as seen in this example, and another with three-tone execution—each pen carries subtle visual differences that make every surviving specimen unique. The design incorporates the characteristic dished end tassies, completing its refined silhouette.
The “Rainbow” pattern traces its conceptual roots to designer Don Doman, who originally developed the multitone gold aesthetic within the celebrated Parker 51 line. In the Regency, that idea was elevated into one of the most technically ambitious finishes Parker ever attempted.
The creation of this finish was a complex and highly specialized process. It began with a flat brass substrate onto which multiple shades of 18K gold were applied in precise concentric circular patterns. The sheet was then heat-formed into a cylindrical cap and barrel. During this transformation, the circular pattern elongated into the distinctive oval and elliptical forms that define the finished “Rainbow” aesthetic. The result is a finish that feels almost organic in its flow—subtle, luminous, and unmistakably unique.
However, the process proved extremely difficult to control at scale. A significant percentage of production failed Parker’s strict quality standards, and many pieces were rejected before reaching the market. Ultimately, the complexity and cost of manufacturing outweighed commercial viability, and production was discontinued. Combined with shifting consumer preferences in the U.S. toward ballpoint pens during this era, the Regency was produced in limited numbers and distributed sparingly—making surviving examples increasingly scarce today.
This particular pen is preserved in outstanding collector condition. The cap and barrel are pristine, showing no dents, dings, scratches, wear, or repairs. The friction-fit cap seats securely and confidently, and the pen remains entirely free of monograms or personal engravings, maintaining its original collector integrity. The back of the cap is stamped with, PARKER 18K G.F. Cap and Barrel U.S.A. with the Parker Logo."
In hand, the pen reflects the classic balance and proportion for which the Parker 75 series is renowned. It measures approximately 5 1/8 inches capped, 5 1/2 inches posted, and weighs 0.80 ounces, offering a refined, controlled writing experience.
It is fitted with the original Parker factory metal ink converter, which has been tested with water and functions exactly as intended. The pen is also fully compatible with Parker ink cartridges for modern usability.
At its heart is a superb 14K solid gold nib, stamped “PARKER 14K U.S.A.” The feed is marked “B” for Broad, delivering a rich, expressive ink flow. The iridium tipping measures approximately 1.06mm via digital calipers, confirming a true Broad point. In keeping with its preserved condition, the pen has never been inked or dipped, leaving the nib in pristine, factory-fresh state.
