The Statue of Liberty, a towering symbol of freedom and democracy, was gifted to the United States by France in 1886 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence and to honor the enduring friendship between the two nations.
Designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, with the internal metal structure engineered by Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, the statue was completed in July 1884 by a skilled French team. After being carefully disassembled into 350 individual parts, it was shipped aboard the French frigate Isère and transported to New York. The pedestal, constructed by the Americans, was completed in April 1886, and the Statue of Liberty was officially inaugurated on October 28 of that year before a crowd of thousands. It would later be designated a National Monument on October 15, 1924.
While originally conceived as a symbol of international camaraderie, the statue evolved into a powerful global emblem of liberty and human freedom.
In tribute to this historic monument, S.T. Dupont has created a remarkable special edition collection that celebrates the legacy of Franco-American friendship. This limited edition design showcases refined guilloché engraving that offers a modern, graphic interpretation of the statue. The Chinese lacquer finish, reminiscent of the statue’s iconic verdigris patina, contrasts strikingly with the brilliance of platinum accents—capturing both the spirit and grandeur of the Statue of Liberty in an exquisite writing instrument.
