Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Spectacular Circa 1902 Waterman #0324 Golpheresque Gold FIlled Overlay on Black Hard Rubber Eyedropper Filler Taper Cap Fountain Pen. This fountain pen is in Mint Condition - a spectacular example that looks near perfect as one has ever seen. This Waterman Taper Cap came from a famous fountain pen collector's collection.

NOTE: This fountain pen shows up in the 1902 Waterman Catalog and sold for $25.00 originally. Keep this in mind, in 1902 the average yearly salary for individuals was $200 to $400

This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with an ornate Golpheresque gold-filled overlay. The model number is #0324 but not marked on the butt-end of the barrel. The hard rubber has a deep black color with no trace of any oxidation. The overlay pattern is clean as can be with no wear of the gold-filled material and the chasing is clean and crisp. The Waterman Taper Cap displays no wear with a perfectly crisp imprint that reads, "WATERMAN'S IDEAL FOUNTAIN PEN N.Y. PAT. FEB. 12 & NOV. 4, 1884". The tapered cap is a friction fit type and secures tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalizations on either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman 0324 measures 5 3/4" in length capped and 6 7/8" posted.

This Parker Taper Cap Fountain Pen is an Eyedropper Fill type. I have tested the filling system with water and works as it was originally intended to with no leaks.

This Waterman has a fantastic #4 WATERMAN IDEAL NEW YORK Semi-Flex Nib. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .45mm when measured with digital calipers - an extra-fine to fine nib point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a double extra-fine line measuring roughly .31mm with light pressure and flexes to a double broad stroke of 1.50mm with medium pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Montblanc Blue Ink.

This Waterman Golpheresque Taper Cap Fountain Pen is in incredible condition - I have never seen a more perfect example. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to grade in MINT condition. If you are a collector of these types of Taper Cap Fountain Pens from Waterman then I would care to guess you will be very pleased with this one in terms of condition and rarity. Finding one of these early Waterman Taper Caps are very few and far between, an extremely scarce pen to add to one's writing arsenal collection.
