Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Restored Circa 1928 Waterman #5 Red Ripple Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with Green Cap Band & NIB. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. I have hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Cap Banding, Gold Filled Waterman Ideal Clip, 18K Gold Filled Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K Green Keyhole nib. There are no cracks, nicks, or repairs to the hard rubber. The Green Cap Banding is an original band, not a newly machined replacement. This Waterman 5 measures 5 1/8" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the Red Ripple pattern. The coloring is gorgeous displaying deep red and black coloring. The lever box assembly displays no wear and the "IDEAL" on the lever is easily seen with the naked eye. The Waterman Ideal Clip and the gold-filled cap banding are excellent but display only very minor wear on the high point on the ball of the clip and on the top edging of the cap banding. All 18K Gold Filled trim has been polished to shine brightly. This Waterman #5 barrel has an imprint at the center of the barrel, albeit light, that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFFICE FOUNTAIN PEN RIPPLE". The butt end of the fountain pen has a crisp number "5" imprint. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalization to either the cap or barrel.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly as it was originally intended to.

This Waterman has the not-so-common Green Keyhole Nib. The Green color-coded Waterman Nib is known for having a Medium manifold popular among stenographers. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .75mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a medium line measuring roughly .61mm on the horizontal strokes to .85mm on the downward strokes with firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The nib performs very well - writes very smoothly. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

This antique Waterman #5 Red Ripple Fountain Pen is in ready-to-write condition using the scarce Green Keyhole nib. I would consider the condition of this Waterman #5 in very fine to excellent condition and certainly a Grail collector grade writing instrument.
