Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this Restored 1920s Waterman 52 Red Ripple Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with Gold Filled Trim. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new #16 rubber sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Waterman's Ideal Clip, Gold Filled Cap Banding, Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Ideal 14K #2 NIB. The Clip and Cap Banding display brassing where the lever only displays very minor brassing on at the middle of the lever and on the edge top and bottom of the Ideal Globe.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the red ripple design. I would say the barrel on this pen has more color vibrancy than the cap does. The fountain barrel has a very faint, almost non-existent imprint at the center of the barrel, but the end is more crisp that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG US PAT. OFF. MADE IN U.S.A.". The butt end of the fountain pen has the 52 imprint.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman 52 measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 7/8" posted.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully. It works as it was designed to - sucks up water without an issue in my testing.

This Waterman has the Ideal Made in USA #2 - 14K NIB. The NIB has a fabulous smooth writing experience along with have some wonderful flexibly. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K #2 Ideal NIB, it measured at .63mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .53mm with very light pressure and flexes up to a triple broad stroke 1.82mm (see image) with normal to medium pressure, I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This Waterman's 52 Red Ripple Fountain Pen is in "ready to write" condition using the great flexible NIB. I would consider the condition of this fountain in fine to excellent condition. It would make for a great starter or user grade fountain pen to explore the flexibility of NIBs. Certainly a wonderful writing instrument to add to any writing arsenal collection.
