Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized, #16 rubber sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Cap Banding, Gold Filled Waterman Ideal Clip, 18K Gold Filled Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K Brown NIB.
This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the red ripple design. The coloring is an amazing red and black color. The barrel has a very crisp imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "PATENTED AUG. 9, 1906 WATERMAN'S IDEAL GLOBE LOGO FOUNTAIN PEN CANADA FEB 9, 1909". The butt end of the fountain pen has the 7 imprint.
The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. The cap has the brown banding. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. This Waterman 7 measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 7 3/16" posted.
The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever are crisp and clean with just some minor brassing on the lever. The Waterman Ideal Clip has just a very tiny amount of brassing on the ball of the clip. The gold filled cap banding has only a small edge spot that is starting to brassing. The brassing is very minor, almost insignificant, but point it out for clarity sake.
Here is the "fun" part of this fountain pen. The NIB is a Waterman Brown 14K NIB made in the USA. The NIB is in wonderful condition that writes with a double extra fine line to triple broad stroke. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K Brown NIB, it measures at .59mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a double extra fine line measuring roughly .31mm with very light pressure and flexes up to 1.90mm with medium to firm pressure; I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Black Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
This is antique Waterman #7 Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition using the incredible flexible NIB. I would consider the condition of this fountain in excellent condition and would be a great writing instrument to add to your writing arsenal collection.
