Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this fabulous Restored Circa 1935 Parker Vacumatic Oversized Double Jewel Emerald Pearl Celluloid Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together. The Largest pen from the 1st Generation, the Oversize has maximum dimensions similar to the later Senior Maxima, but its chunkier contour renders it of larger look and feel. The gripping section is larger than is found in the Senior Maxima.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the feed, section, breather tube, and barrel. Replaced the old diaphragm with a new, properly sized one. I have hand-polished the gold-filled split arrow Feather clip, 3-ring cap banding, 14K PARKER U.S.A. Nib, and bottom tassel. Additionally, I have cleaned, buffed, and polished the barrel, cap, and blind to bring back the vibrancy of and to protect the celluloid of the fountain pen. This Parker Vacumatic is an Oversize which measures 5 3/8" capped and 6 1/4" posted.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the Feather Split Arrow Gold Filled Clip displaying no wear.  The 3-Ring Cap Banding displays no wear and has a rich gold-filled color. The top and bottom jewels are striped to match the cap and barrel of the fountain pen.  The barrel is stamped and reads, "Geo. S. Parker PARKER Vacumatic Made in U.S.A. Pat. with a 35 date code for 1935 in the 3rd quarter". The transparency on the barrel is very good but has medium ambering.

The filling unit on this Parker is known as a "lockdown" filler. It is the proper filling unit for Parker 1st Generation Fountain Pens that were produced from 1933 to 1937.  I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The Lockdown Vacumatic Filling System works great, typically in my tests with water about 15 to 20 presses to fill full. I have greased the filling unit, so it operates smoothly.

The Parker U.S.A. NIB is a 14K Gold Split Arrow NIB, which writes great with a wet line.  The actual 14K Parker NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .60mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a medium to a double broad stroke/line. In the writing sample provided, the medium line measures at .60mm and will flex upwards to a broad line measuring at 1.08mm under normal to medium pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Black Ink.

This is one of those vintage Parker Vacumatic Fountain Pens you don't always get a chance to secure in your collection in the Emerald Pearl Celluloid and 1st Generation Oversize. This fountain pen has all the high-end features that you expect for a price point of this nature - striped section, striped jewels, near-perfect imprint, clean and bright gold-filled trim, good barrel transparency, and vibrant emerald coloring. I would consider this Parker Oversized Vac to grade in Excellent to Excellent+ Condition.
