This Senior represents the largest model of striped Duofold. The series ran from 1940-1948. As large as a Slender Maxima Parker Vacumatic, it employs the Vac's filling system. The Duofold is a high-quality pen which features the marbled-striped celluloid on a pen. This one is a 1st Generation example. Produced just 1940-41 it is less common than the single cap-band, single-jewel 1942-8 style. The color is excellent on this celluloid. Very good clarity, proper "Parker Pen" nib (V-nib would appear later), with metal pump.
I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, section, breather tube, cap, and barrel. Replaced the old diaphragm with a new, properly sized one. Hand polished the Gold Filled Blue Diamond Clip, Narrow-Wide-Narrow Triple Cap Banding, and 14K Parker Pen Nib. Cleaned, Buffed, Polished, and Waxed the barrel, cap, and blind cap to protect the celluloid and bring back the vibrancy of fountain pen.
This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, teeth marks, or repairs. The cap has the Blue Diamond Gold Filled clip with some brassing at the top of the clip near the blue diamond. The Gold Filled Narrow-Wide-Narrow Triple Cap Banding displays a wonderful gold filled color with just a small hint of brassing on the lower ring. The top jewel is black and polished to a great shine The barrel is clearly stamped with, "PARKER DUOFOLD MADE IN U.S.A. with date code 1 (for 1941) in the first quarter". The transparency of the barrel is great and one can see through it clearly. The blind cap securely fits and has a gold filled tassie that displays very minor gold filled loss on the edge. There are no personalizations or monograms to either the cap or barrel on this fountain pen. This Parker Duofold Fountain Pen is known as the Senior Size and the largest model when manufactured from 1940 to 1941 and measures 5 1/4" in length capped and 6 1/8" posted.
The Speedline Vacu-Fill System works great, typically in my tests with water about 5 to 7 presses and it will roughly fill full. This Vacu-Fill unit has been greased and is in excellent condition - it operates smoothly and works flawlessly as it did when manufactured.
The 14K Parker Pen NIB performs wonderfully and has a fine/medium point measuring roughly .59mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample this NIB writes with a fine to double broad stroke/line. The writing sample provided in the image has the fine stroke on the horizontal lines measuring .47mm and the double broad stroke of roughly 1.34mm with medium pressure. The sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
This lovely, RESTORED Parker Duofold Fountain Pen in the Green Gold Celluloid display wonderful color. I would grade this Duofold in the Very Fine to Excellent Condition - the brassing on the top of the clip is really the only blemish on this otherwise fantastic Duofold. Not a common Duofold and is a 1st Generation in the largest size that was produced from 1940-41. It is ready to write with or just add to writing arsenal collection.
