I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new #17 silicone sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Barrel Banding, Gold Filled Clip, Gold Filled Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 100 Year Full Flex Nib. I have also hand buffed and polished the Waterman Hundred Year Pencil.
This fountain pen is made from lucite in Jet Black. The coloring is an amazing black color with no damage to either the cap or barrel. The back of the cap has the imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFFICE MADE IN U.S.A. HUNDRED YEAR PEN". The barrel has the gold filled banding that is clean and secured to the barrel. There is no brassing to any of the gold filled trim on this fountain pen.
The pencil is made from lucite in Jet Black. The coloring is an amazing black color with no damage to either the cap or barrel. This Waterman Set has been preserved handsomely and a spectacular example. The threads on the fountain pen cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, crazing, nicks or repairs to the lucite on this Waterman. This Waterman Hundred Year is a standard size fountain pen that measures 5 1/16" in length capped and 6 1/8" posted. The pencil measures 5 1/16" inches in length.
The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The lever is crisp and clean with no brassing. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully.
The pencil repels and propels the lead as it was designed to with any challenges.
Here is the "fun" part of this fountain pen. The NIB is the 14K Waterman Hundred Year that is flexible and writes smoothly. When measuring the actual iridium tip of the NIB, it measures at .81mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .51mm with very light pressure and flexes up to a triple broad stroke of 1.94mm with medium to firm pressure; I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
Finding a Waterman Hundred Year Pen with Smooth Barrel and Cap is elusive and finding one in this condition is extremely difficult. This is a Holy Grail Waterman Hundred Year Pen that I would consider the condition to be in Excellent+ to Near Mint Condition. Certainly, this is a collector grade writing instrument to add to one's writing arsenal collection.
