For your consideration, we are pleased to offer for sale this highly desirable first-generation circa 1980 Montblanc Noblesse Fountain Pen (Model #1157), beautifully executed in platinum plate and fitted with a 585 (14K) Extra-Fine nib. This exceptional example remains Mint, New Old Stock, and Never Inked, accompanied by its original Montblanc presentation box and literature.
Among collectors of the Noblesse series, the platinum-plated models are considered significantly scarcer than their gold-plated counterparts. While most surviving examples encountered today are finished in gold plate, the platinum-plated version was produced in far smaller quantities and offers a distinctly modern, understated elegance that has become increasingly sought after. Finding one preserved in untouched, never-inked condition is exceptionally difficult.
The first-generation Noblesse represents one of Montblanc's most successful departures from traditional fountain pen design. Introduced during an era dominated by sleek European modernism, the Noblesse combined crisp architectural lines with precious-metal finishes to create a writing instrument that remains timeless more than four decades later.
This example presents beautifully. The cap and barrel are flawless, free from dents, dings, scratches, cracks, or repairs, with the cap securing firmly by way of its original friction-fit design. The finely fluted platinum-plated finish retains its full brilliance throughout, exhibiting the clean, sophisticated appearance that distinguishes the rarer platinum models. The gold-plated clip provides a subtle contrast and remains equally well preserved. Beneath the clip, the cap is crisply stamped "MONTBLANC GERMANY."
The cap is crowned with the iconic flush-mounted Montblanc emblem, while the barrel terminates with the distinctive recessed snowcap design unique to the Noblesse series. There are no monograms, engravings, or signs of previous ownership.
The cap imprint and construction are consistent with first-generation Noblesse production from approximately 1974 through 1980. The pen measures 5 1/2 inches capped, 6 1/8 inches posted, and weighs .86 ounces, offering a remarkably balanced and refined writing experience.
The pen retains its original Montblanc converter, which has been tested with water and functions exactly as intended.
Fitted with a desirable 14K / 585 Extra-Fine nib, the point measures approximately .42mm when checked with digital calipers. In keeping with its collector-grade preservation, the nib has never been inked or dipped, remaining exactly as it left the Montblanc factory decades ago.
Also included are the original Montblanc presentation box and literature. For complete accuracy, the box displays a blemish beneath the Noblesse logo on the interior, and the satin lining has partially separated from the left side of the interior backing.
Today, first-generation Noblesse fountain pens have developed a loyal following among Montblanc collectors who appreciate their minimalist design, exceptional build quality, and growing scarcity. Platinum-plated examples are encountered far less frequently than the gold-plated models, making this an especially attractive opportunity for the serious collector.
An increasingly elusive Montblanc Noblesse—combining rare platinum-plated construction, a factory-fresh Extra-Fine nib, and untouched New Old Stock condition into one of the most elegant modernist designs Montblanc ever produced.
