Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Very Scarce 1st Year 1941 Parker 51 Vacumatic Demonstrator Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and is now again in wonderful writing condition.

This one has a clear hood and Black solid color double jewel barrel. This Demonstrator has the red plastic collector found on most of these pens. The barrel is hot stamped “Demonstrator”. The pen has the correct aluminum jewels on the cap and blind cap and is fully imprinted on the blind cap, and has a Speedline filler. These are all the features that make this a 1st Year Demonstrator and a very rare specimen.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the feed, collector, breather tube, hood, and barrel. Replaced the old diaphragm with a new one. Hand cleaned the Cap & Arrow Clip, Clutch Ring, and 14K Parker NIB. This Parker 51 is Fullsize and measures 5 3/8" capped and 5 7/8" posted. There are no monograms or personalizations on either the cap or barrel.

This fountain pen cap, barrel, and hood are in great condition with no chips or repairs. The cap has the Blue Diamond Arrow Clip that displays no wear. The cap is a first-year "Wedding Band" cap that displays some minor surface scratches but no significant denting. The blind cap is clearly stamped with, "PARKER MADE IN U.S.A. with a date code 1 (for 1941) in the 2nd quarter". The barrel is stamped, "DEMONSTRATOR".

I have replaced the diaphragm and tested the Vacumatic filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The filling system, typically in my tests with water, will fill nearly full in roughly 10 to 14 presses.

The Parker NIB is 14K and is original to the pen - it has no stamping which is how these came on these first-year demonstrators. The actual writing portion (iridium) of the 14K Parker NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .45mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with an extra-fine line ranging from .38mm to .43mm when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Montblanc Blue Ink.

Saying this First Year Parker 51 Demonstrator Fountain Pen is uncommon is an understatement, these are extremely rare and would be the one of the Grail 51s in a collection! Not many collectors will ever have a chance to own these. I would consider this Parker 51 to be in Very Fine to Excellent Condition. Certainly a collector-grade addition to one's writing arsenal collection that is ready to write with.
