For your consideration, we are pleased to offer for sale this exceptionally scarce 2010 William Henry Cabernet F8-2 Limited Edition Fountain Pen, numbered 48 of only 100 pieces produced worldwide. A masterfully engineered luxury writing instrument, the F8-2 seamlessly blends aerospace technology, artisan craftsmanship, and functional modern design, representing one of William Henry’s earliest and most ambitious ventures into the world of fine writing instruments.
William Henry, long celebrated for its handcrafted luxury knives and exotic gentleman’s accessories, approached fountain pen manufacturing from a distinctly different perspective than traditional pen companies. Drawing heavily from the world of custom knives, jewelry, and high-performance materials, the company created fountain pens that appealed equally to collectors of fine writing instruments and enthusiasts of functional artisan craftsmanship.
Unlike traditional luxury fountain pens that rely heavily on ornate decoration, the Cabernet F8-2 embraces a refined industrial elegance rooted in precision machining and exotic materials. The body is crafted from satin-finished aerospace-grade titanium, giving the pen a sleek architectural appearance while maintaining remarkable strength and a surprisingly lightweight feel in hand.
The visual centerpiece is undoubtedly the hand-forged Damascus steel clip, beautifully patterned with flowing layered grain and accented by a genuine ruby set into an 18K gold bezel. Complementing the clip is a striking mokume-gane accent band at the cap junction, adding warmth and subtle contrast to the cool titanium finish. Carbon fiber finials complete the design, reinforcing the pen’s contemporary performance-inspired character.
One of the most innovative features of the Cabernet series is William Henry’s patented WaveLock™ cap system. Rather than utilizing conventional cap threads, the pen employs a sophisticated internal ball-bearing locking mechanism that creates a smooth, precise snap-lock closure both capped and posted. The mechanism is not only mechanically impressive, but also contributes to the uninterrupted streamlined profile of the pen.
The fountain pen measures approximately 5 5/8 inches capped, 6 1/2 inches posted, and weighs 1.53 ounces, offering a substantial yet exceptionally balanced writing feel in hand.
Internally, the pen utilizes a cartridge/converter filling system for practical everyday usability. I have tested the ink converter with water and works as intended.
This William Henry Fountain Pen fitted with a two-tone 18K gold Medium nib engineered to provide smooth, controlled writing performance while maintaining the refined luxury expected from a boutique limited edition writing instrument of this caliber. The iridium point measures .86mm, which falls into the medium range. The nib has never been dipped in ink and wanted to keep it that way for the next curator.
This example remains in Mint condition and has never been inked. The titanium body, Damascus steel clip, and trim remain exceptionally clean and well preserved with no dents, cracks, repairs, or notable signs of handling wear present. The WaveLock mechanism operates smoothly and precisely as originally designed, while the untouched nib and feed further support its outstanding collector-grade preservation.
Due to their extremely limited production, high original retail cost, and niche distribution, William Henry fountain pens remain elusive on today’s collector market. Many examples disappeared into private collections shortly after release, and surviving complete examples are encountered only rarely.
Accompanying this pen are the original presentation boxes, factory documentation, and the original William Henry DVD, completing the offering as a highly desirable collector-grade example.
The Cabernet F8-2 stands today as one of the more distinctive and technically fascinating modern limited edition fountain pens produced during the early 21st century—combining precision engineering, exotic materials, and understated luxury into a truly remarkable collector’s writing instrument.
