Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Restored 1917 Waterman #552 1/2 Black Hard Rubber with 14K Solid Gold Smooth Overlay Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned, buffed, and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Hand polished the 14K Solid Gold Waterman Clip-Cap Clip, 14K Cap, and 14K Barrel along with the Waterman 14K #2 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with 14K Solid Gold (not plated) Smooth Overlay. The Waterman Ideal Clip-Cap displays absolutely no wear and is marked 14K. All of the 14K Solid Gold overlay and trim is in excellent condition and has been polished to shine brightly - there is a very shallow ding on the side of the cap that is difficult to see and only in the right lighting (see image 8) - I point it out for clarity sake but one has to really look to find it. The cap, barrel, and clip have all been stamped with 14K. This Waterman barrel has the imprint on the end of the barrel, "552 1/2". This cap is a screw-on type cap that securely fits the barrel. There are initials engraved on the barrel that reads, "S.J.M.". There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman #552 1/2 measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 5/8" posted.

This Waterman Fountain Pen is a Lever Fill type. I have tested it with Waterman fills and works as it was originally designed to.

This Waterman has a #2 WATERMAN Flex Nib that is a pleasure to write with. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with a medium point measuring .61mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with an extra-fine line measuring roughly .41mm on the horizontal strokes and will flex up to a triple broad stroke of 1.84mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This 1917 Waterman #552 1/2 14K Solid Gold Fountain Pen is not an easy example to find with a great Nib. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to grade in Very Fine to Excellent condition. This Waterman #552 1/2 Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition or add it to your writing arsenal collection.
