I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new silicone sac to preserve the color. Hand polished the Gold Fill Sheaffer Clip, Cap Banding, and 14K Gold NIB. I also cleaned and polished the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of the fountain pen. The color of the pearl is spectacular - there is no discoloration to the celluloid and in Mint condition.
This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, teeth marks, or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the White Dot with Gold Filled Sheaffer Clip that displays absolutely no wear - perfect condition. The Cap Banding is in perfect condition with absolutely no wear. The Gold Filled Lever is in perfect condition with no wear of the gold fill. All of the gold-filled trim has been polished to shine brightly again. The barrel is clearly stamped with, "W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO. FORT MADISON, IOWA U.S.A. PATENTED IN U.S.A.". There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. This Standard Size Sheaffer Balance Fountain Pen measures 5 1/2" in length capped and 6 1/4" posted.
I have tested the lever filling mechanism with water and fills as it was originally intended to.
This Sheaffer has the LIFETIME 14K NIB that writes smoothly for an Extra-Fine to Fine point. The actual writing portion, the iridium, of the 14K Sheaffer NIB has an extra-fine point measuring roughly .40mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with an extra-fine to fine stroke/line that varies between .35mm to .50mm when measured with digital calipers. I have to point out that this Sheaffer Nib writes smoothly for such an extra-fine point. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.
This is a very uncommon Sheaffer Balance Fountain Pen due to the great color on the celluloid with perfect gold filled trim. Typically, these condition type pens are reserved for long-lasting collections that rarely anyone has a chance to acquire. I would grade this pen in Mint Condition. The coloring of the cap and barrel is in such immaculate condition and will be a prize for the new owner. Certainly, this fountain pen is collector grade and is ready to write with or just add to writing arsenal collection.
