For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Restored Circa 1938 Sheaffer Standard Size Balance Fountain Pen in Carmine Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition.
I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Clip, Cap Banding, and 14K Gold NIB. I have cleaned, buffed, polished the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of the fountain pen.
This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, teeth marks, or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap is a White Dot with gorgeous coloring and perfect Gold Filled Clip, Lever, and Cap Banding that display no gold fill wear. The barrel is clearly and crisply stamped with, "W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co Fort Madison, Iowa, U.S.A. Patented in the U.S.A.". Collector Alert: The section ink-view window transparency is Water Clear. There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. This Sheaffer Balance Fountain Pen is a Long-Standard size, one size below the Oversize, that measures 5 1/2" in length capped and 6 1/4" posted.
I have tested the lever filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The Lever Filling System works excellent, as it was originally intended to.
Here is where this Sheaffer gets interesting due to the flex nib. This Sheaffer has a Lifetime 14K NIB. The actual writing portion, the iridium, of the 14K Sheaffer Lifetime NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .67mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a fine stroke measuring at .57mm and will flex up to a double broad 1.66mm stroke with firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. Typically, Sheaffer nibs are very rigid and after handling 1000s of Sheaffer during my lifetime, this particular nib is quite uncommon due to being a fully flexible nib...quite a treat! The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.
This is a fabulous Sheaffer Balance Fountain Pen in the Carmine Celluloid that would grade in Near Mint Condition - it looks like the day it left the factory. Carmine is one of the most difficult to find celluloid colors in this model. Certainly, this fountain pen is collector grade and this fine writing instrument is ready to write with or just add to your writing arsenal collection.
