Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Restored Circa 1937 to 1941 Sheaffer Crest Lifetime White Dot Plunger Fill Fountain Pen in the Golden Brown Striated Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Collector Note: This Sheaffer Crest was produced from 1937 to 1941. The open nib on the pen is the giveaway. It is an early example of the Crest which I consider to be a bit more uncommon compared to the Triumph nib Crest.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, section, and barrel. Replaced the old packing unit with new, added a new plunger gasket, and new stainless plunger rod. Hand polished the 1/10 14K Gold Filled Cap and 14K Gold 2-Tone NIB. I also cleaned, buffed, and polished the barrel, cap, and blind cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of the fountain pen.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no dings, dents, chips, cracks, teeth marks, or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has a gorgeous alternating 5 lines then 1 line pattern in the 1/10 14K Gold Fill that displays no gold fill loss - the cap has no dings or dents and displays most excellent. The barrel is clearly stamped with, "W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO. FORT MADISON, IOWA, U.S.A. PATENTED IN U.S.A.". The barrel transparency of the barrel is highly visulated with black pinstriping - it is Water Clear! There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. The "White-Dot" is placed at the end of the blind cap. This Sheaffer Crest Fountain Pen measures 5 1/4" in length capped and 6" posted.

I have tested the plunger filling mechanism with water and fills and dispenses as it should. The Plunger Filling System works excellent and holds an enormous amount of ink.

This Sheaffer has the gorgeous Two-toned Open Waverly 14K NIB. The actual writing portion, the iridium, of the 14K Sheaffer NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .76mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a fine to medium stroke/line measuring between .55mm to .76mm when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

This is a great Sheaffer Crest Fountain Pen in the Golden Brown Celluloid that would grade in Excellent to Near Mint Condition. The barrel transparency is in great condition and will be a prize for the new owner. It was the first Sheaffer pen with a metal cap and celluloid body and was a precursor to later metal cap / plastic body pens such as the Parker 51. This model was intended as a high line model, initially offered with a gold-filled cap and either a black or golden brown striated body or a sterling silver cap and a gray pearl body. Certainly, this fountain pen is collector grade and this fine writing instrument is ready to write with or just add to your writing arsenal collection.
