Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1915 Waterman 12 VS Safety Fountain Pen in Black Chased Hard Rubber Pattern. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition.

NOTE: The "VS" is a model known as a Pocket Safety Pen.

I have hand cleaned the NIB and feed. I have hand cleaned the inside of the barrel, cap, spiral, rod connector, turning knob, and end unit with mineral oil. I hand-polished the cap and barrel along with the Ideal 14K #2 Stub NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in a Black Chased pattern. The hard rubber portion of the pen displays is a deep black color that displays just gorgeously with perfect chasing! The butt end of the barrel has the 12 VS imprint. The center of the barrel reads, "PAT'D. 1884 MAY 23, 1899 WATERMAN'S IDEAL GLOBE LOGO FOUNTAIN - PEN N.Y. U.S.A. & AUG. 4, 1903 SAFETY PEN".

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalizations on the barrel or cap. There are no cracks, nicks, or repairs to the hard rubber. The hard rubber material looks beautiful and I would consider it in near-mint condition. They have restored the safety pen with a new o-ring and the suction is perfect. There are no leaks from the cap or the turning knob. This Waterman 12 V.S. measures 4 5/8" in length capped and 5 7/8" posted with the nib extended.

The NIB is a 14K #2 Waterman New York Stub NIB. When measuring the actual tip of the NIB, it measured at a Broad point of 1.17mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line on the horizontal strokes measuring roughly .51mm and flexes to a triple broad stroke of approximately 2.15mm with a medium to firm pressure. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale.  The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Finding Early Waterman Safety Fountain Pens are uncommon. This 12 VS Safety is in Near Mint to Mint Condition displaying deep black color and chasing crisp and clean which is going to be a real treasure for the new collector. A superb collector-worthy writing instrument to add to your writing arsenal collection!
