CIRCA 1925 POSTAL RESERVOIR BLACK FOUNTAIN PEN F to BBB+ FLEXIBLE NIB IN RESTORED CONDITION

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1925 Postal Reservoir Fountain Pen in Black and Transparent Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in excellent writing condition.

This fountain pen has been ultrasonically cleaned; the feed, section, breather tube, and barrel. Replaced the old bulb sac with a new one. Hand polished the gold plate clip, cap banding, and 14K Postal NIB. Cleaned, Buffed, Polished & Waxed the barrel, cap, and blind to bring back the vibrancy, clarity, and to protect the celluloid of fountain pen.

This fountain pen cap, barrel, and blind cap are in excellent condition with no cracks, stress marks, or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The barrel has wonderful transparency where an individual can easily see through the barrel, albeit with mild ambering. The cap has a gold plate clip that displays some brassing on the ball of the clip and at the top of the clip where it starts to insert into the cap - really very minor but, I point it out for clarity sake. The cap banding does display some brassing on the cap banding. The cap is stamped crisp and clearly with, "POSTAL RESERVOIR PEN PAT'D. NOV. 23, 20 MADE IN NEW YORK. U.S.A.". The bulb filler blind cap securely fits. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. This Postal Reservoir Fountain Pen is a Men's size model that measures 5 3/4" in length capped and 7 3/16" posted.

This bulb filling unit is a simple filling solution, just squeeze the bulb and release when in ink to draw up the fluid. One would have to do this several times to fill the barrel full.

This Postal Reservoir pen has a marked, "14K Postal Pen" NIB. The actual writing portion of the iridium tipping on the NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .66mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample the NIB writes with a medium to triple broad stroke/line. The writing sample provided in the image has the medium stroke measuring at .72mm and can flex to a triple broad stroke of roughly 1.90mm with medium to firm pressure. The sample was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

Beginning in about 1925, the Postal Pen Company, Inc., of New York City produced the Postal Reservoir Pen and sold it exclusively by mail order. Offered as only two models (one for men and one for women) and priced at $2.50, the Postal Pen was a flat-top pen fitted with a bulb filler. Using the en­tire bar­rel as the res­er­voir gave the pen a huge ink capacity for a self-filler. Postal made the barrel of transparent celluloid and gave the user a view of the re­main­ing ink sup­ply and touted its product as “The Pen That Says ‘Fill Me Up’ When Empty.”

The fascination of Postal Pens lies in the way in which they were sold, and in their fragile barrels. (Clear celluloid can become terribly brittle with age.) Although this pen shown in the listing images is in excellent condition. Many Postal Fountain Pens show networks of cracks in their barrels and would almost certainly “explode” if a repairer attempted to disassemble them. Because of issues like this, Postal Pens are extremely rare, and examples in collector or even good user condition pens are highly desirable.
