For your consideration, we are offering this restored circa 1928 Waterman No. 94 Blue-Green Ripple Fountain Pen, fitted with its correct #4 14K Waterman Ideal nib and upgraded 9CT / .375 solid gold cap band trim. The Waterman 94 is a difficult model to acquire in today's market, and examples in this level of preservation are seldom encountered. The fountain pen has been completely disassembled, cleaned, a new sac added, polished, and put back together to write once again.
This Waterman is made from hard rubber (ebonite) in the striking Blue-Green Ripple pattern. The pen retains outstanding color depth. The barrel imprints are strong and sharply defined, reading “WATERMAN’S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF. FOUNTAIN PEN RIPPLE,” with a crisp “94” imprint at the butt end. The pen is fitted with the upgraded 9CT solid gold cap band, clearly stamped with hallmarks, and an 18K gold-filled Waterman Ideal clip, both of which are in exceptional condition. The lever box assembly shows no wear or brassing, underscoring the remarkable originality of this example.
The pen has been fully disassembled, cleaned, carefully inspected, and expertly reassembled. The nib, feed, and section were ultrasonically cleaned, while the interior of the cap and barrel were gently conditioned with mineral oil. A new, properly sized rubber sac has been installed. The clip, solid gold cap band, lever box assembly, and the #4 Ideal nib were all hand-polished to restore their original luster while preserving their integrity.
There are no monograms or personalizations, and the hard rubber is free of cracks, nicks, or repairs. The color remains vivid and uniform throughout. The pen measures 5 1/8 inches capped, 6 1/2 inches posted, and weighs .64 ounces, offering a substantial yet balanced feel in hand.
The lever-filling system has been cleaned, lightly lubricated, and tested with water, filling smoothly and operating exactly as designed. The lever’s Ideal Globe imprint is clean and well defined, with no brassing.
The original #4 14K Waterman Ideal nib is a standout feature. At the tipping, it measures approximately .57mm (a heavy Fine), yet in use it writes a smooth Medium line around .67mm with light pressure, flexing to a double-broad stroke of approximately 1.73mm with moderate to firm pressure. The nib is exceptionally smooth, gliding across the page on both downstrokes and horizontal strokes. The writing sample shown was produced with this exact pen, dipped in Faber-Castell Cobalt Blue ink.
Waterman 94 Blue-Green Ripple fountain pens are extremely difficult to source in today’s market, particularly in such original, clean condition. With its vivid color, strong imprints, pristine trim, expressive nib, and superb mechanical restoration, this is a true collector-grade example—one that would anchor a curated Waterman collection. I would confidently grade this pen as Excellent+ condition, bordering on Near Mint.
