I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new rubber sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Sheaffer Clip, Cap Banding, and 14K Gold 3-25 NIB. I also cleaned, buffed, polished, and waxed the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of the fountain pen. The color of this Jade is with gorgeous, vibrant color.
This fountain pen cap and barrel are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, teeth marks with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the Sheaffer Gold Filled Clip that displays absolutely no wear. The Cap Banding is in perfect condition, again, with no wear of the gold filled plating. The Gold Filled Lever is in perfect condition with no wear of the gold filled material. The barrel is clearly stamped with, "W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO. FORT MADISON, IOWA U.S.A. PAT. D-78,794". Collector Alert: This pen is in remarkable condition with the Jade color displaying so vibrantly. There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. This Jade Balance Combo Fountain Pen/Pencil measures 6" in length capped and 6 1/4" posted.
I wanted to point out that the cap has an interesting feature. The cap began its life as a White Dot but the White Dot area has been plugged with a round Jade insert from the factory. I have only seen one other fountain pen like this in 10 years of collecting. It is an interesting feature that is a collector variant that most individuals probably do not have.
I have tested the lever filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. Additionally, the Pencil will propel and repel - the pencil is working as it should.
This Sheaffer has the 3-25 Made in U.S.A. 14K NIB. The actual writing portion, the iridium, of the 14K Sheaffer NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .55mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a fine to medium stroke/line that varies between .50mm to .68mm when measured with digital calipers. I have to point out that this Sheaffer Nib writes very smooth. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
This is a very Scarce Sheaffer Balance Combo Fountain Pen/Pencil that I would grade in Excellent Condition. The coloring of the Jade material is in such immaculate condition it would be a prize for the new owner. Certainly, this fountain pen is collector grade and is ready to write with or just add to writing arsenal collection.
