Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Near Mint Circa 1958 Parker 61 Presidential Solid 14K Gold Fountain Pen fitted with a 14K Medium nib. This fountain pen has been flushed, cleaned, buffed, and polished. It has been restored and is back in superb writing condition.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, dings, dents, or repairs. The cap, barrel, and clip are all hallmarked 14K and hallmarked. Parker is stamped on the lower cap lip. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. The Parker 61 Presidential made its debut before Christmas in 1958 and they were discontinued in 1983. We can date this Parker 61 somewhere between 1958 and 1969 because Cartridge converter pens were being made after 1969. This Parker 61 measures 5 1/4" in length capped and 5 5/8" posted.

This Parker 61 is fitted with a 14K gold medium nib. The actual writing portion (iridium tip) of the 14K Parker NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .60mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a fine to medium stroke/line. In the writing sample provided, the line variation measures between a fine (.45mm) to medium (.63mm) line variation when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Black Ink.

This Parker 61 has a capillary filling system that has been used. I have cleaned/flushed the capillary with water to clean out the old ink. It is nearly impossible to clean the capillary free of ink due to the nature of the filling system but it is flushed very well.

This Parker 61 Presidential 14K Solid Gold Overlay with a smooth finish is a very scarce fountain pen. We see many 9ct UK models and more than a few 18ct UK models as well. Finding a 14K USA-made model is much more difficult. This example is in near-perfect condition - if it wasn't inked previously I would call it Mint. This is an Heirloom writing instrument for sure!
