PLEASE NOTE: This listing is for a fountain pen restoration service, not the purchase of a fountain pen. You will be sending your own hard rubber fountain pen to Antique Digger for professional deoxidation treatment.
This service is intended for the deoxidation and color restoration of one hard rubber fountain pen exhibiting oxidation, fading, or discoloration caused by age and environmental exposure.
Restore the Original Beauty of Your Vintage Hard Rubber Fountain Pen
Hard rubber, also known as ebonite, was widely used in the manufacture of vintage fountain pens. Although valued for its durability and distinctive appearance, hard rubber can oxidize over time when exposed to sunlight and other environmental conditions.
This oxidation often causes an originally black fountain pen to fade to an unattractive olive, greenish-brown, or brown color. For collectors, this discoloration can significantly detract from the pen's original appearance.
At Antique Digger, I use a specialized treatment designed to draw out surface oxidation and help restore the original appearance of vintage hard rubber.
The goal is to bring your pen's original black color back as close to its original appearance as possible, without using dyes or paint to artificially recolor the material.
What This Restoration Service Includes
This service includes the deoxidation treatment of one hard rubber fountain pen. The treatment uses a naturally based product containing a specific enzyme to address oxidation and improve the appearance of the original hard rubber.
Each application takes approximately 20–40 minutes, and most pens require one or two applications to achieve results similar to those shown in the listing photographs. The number of applications needed will depend on the extent of oxidation and the individual pen's condition.
When present, the original chasing—the decorative patterns engraved into the hard rubber—is preserved through this process. The treatment is intended to address oxidation without removing the pen's original decorative details or using dye or paint to create the restored appearance.
Please understand that results vary. The final appearance depends on the degree of oxidation, the condition of the hard rubber, and the characteristics of the individual pen. An exact return to its original factory color cannot be guaranteed.
Replacement Parts & Additional Repairs
This service covers deoxidation only and does not include the replacement of broken, damaged, or missing parts.
If I discover that your pen requires additional repairs or replacement components, I will contact you before proceeding. If appropriate replacement parts are available, I will explain the additional costs so you can decide whether you wish to continue.
No additional repair work will be performed without your approval.
Important Notice Regarding Vintage Hard Rubber
Vintage fountain pens can be many decades old, and their materials may become brittle, fragile, or weakened with age. Although I take care when handling and treating every pen, there is always a risk that an aged component may crack, break, discolor, or otherwise fail during the restoration process.
Antique Digger cannot guarantee that every vintage pen will withstand the restoration process or that all discoloration can be removed. The pen's age, condition, and existing material deterioration may affect the final result.
If your pen breaks during the restoration process and cannot reasonably be restored, I will return the pen to you and refund the restoration-service payment, less applicable shipping costs.
Return Shipping & Insurance
If you would like your restored fountain pen insured during return shipping, please email me with your requested insurance amount. I will calculate the additional cost and provide an invoice for the shipping and insurance charges.
Please package your fountain pen securely when shipping it to Antique Digger to help protect it during transit.
