The NIB, Feed, Section and Breather Tube have been ultrasonically cleaned. I replaced the old diaphragm with a new, properly sized one. Hand polished the Gold Filled Split Arrow Clip, Parker Vacumatic Gold Filled Cap Banding, Parker NIB, and bottom tassel. I have Cleaned, Buffed, and Polished the barrel, cap, and blind cap to bring back the vibrancy of the fountain pen and to protect the celluloid. This Parker Vacumatic is a Senior Maxima that measures 5 3/8" capped and 6 1/8" posted.
This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The Emerald Pearl color is simply beautiful with vibrant emerald green color. The cap has the Split Arrow Gold Filled Clip that does not display any wear. The PARKER VACUMATIC gold filled cap banding displays crisp letter and polished to display bright. The top and bottom jewels are striped to match the cap, barrel, section, and blind cap of the fountain pen and have been polished to a high shine. The barrel is clearly and crisply stamped with, "GEO. S. PARKER PARKER VACUMATIC with the MADE IN U.S.A. with date code 7 (for 1937) in the 4th Quarter". The barrel transparency is fantastic, a person can easily see through the barrel, albeit with mild ambering. The blind cap securely fits. The cap and barrel are free of any personalizations or monograms.
The rarity of this pen lies in the Parker Vacumatic imprinted cap banding. These Parker Vacumatic cap band fountain pens were only produced for a few quarters in 1937 during Q2 through Q4. These Parker Vacumatic Cap Bands are considered extremely rare and coveted by collectors and rarely come up for sale. This is the second Parker Vacumatic Cap Band I have ever had on my site for clients to purchase in over 3 years and handling over several thousand pens.
This Parker Maxima Vacumatic retains the correct "Speedline" filling unit that was produced for 2nd Generation Vacumatic and works flawlessly. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The Speedline Vacumatic Filling System works great, typically in my tests with water about 8-12 presses to fill full. I have greased the filling unit so it operates smoothly.
This Parker Vacumatic NIB is 14K Gold with platinum plating that is nearly all worn away. The Parker Nib has a 1937 date code and is a proper match to the barrel and rest of the pen. The Nib has a medium point that measures .65mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a medium stroke/line. In the writing sample provided, the stroke/line ranges from .63mm to .72mm when measuring with digital calipers. The nib on the Maxima writes so smooth, such a pleasure to write with. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
This Parker Emerald Pearl Senior Maxima Fountain Pen with Parker Vacumatic Cap Banding is a near-perfect example - the celluloid is vibrant and looks incredible, has the striped jewels, striped section, the barrel has very good transparency, and it is a Senior Maxima with the uber-rare Parker Vacumatic cap banding. I would consider this Maxima to easily grade in Excellent Condition and will certainly be a treasured addition to your writing arsenal collection.
