The Teatro collection represents one of S.T. Dupont's most imaginative and artistic creations of the 1990s. Inspired by the grandeur and emotion of classical theatre, the design celebrates life itself through the timeless themes of comedy and tragedy. The Harlequin figure, originating from the Italian Commedia dell'Arte tradition, symbolizes mystery, intrigue, and joyful endings, while the theatrical curtains reveal the iconic laughing and crying masks that have long represented the human experience.
Executed in rich red Chinese lacquer with brilliant gold-plated accents, this fountain pen beautifully showcases S.T. Dupont's renowned craftsmanship. The lacquer possesses remarkable depth and warmth, while the gold-plated appointments provide a striking contrast that elevates the entire presentation.
Condition is simply outstanding. The cap and barrel remain flawless with no dents, dings, scratches, lacquer loss, plating wear, cracks, or repairs. The friction-fit cap seats securely every time to the barrel, preserving the elegant lines of the design. The clip is engraved "Made in France" along with the limited edition number 210/1000, while the cap lip is appropriately stamped, "S.T. Dupont Laque de Chine Paris." There are no monograms or personal engravings.
The fountain pen measures 5 1/2 inches capped, 6 5/8 inches posted, has a cap band diameter of 10.52mm, and weighs .90 ounces, giving it a refined yet substantial feel in hand.
Fitted with an 18K/750 Medium nib, the tipping measures approximately .82mm when checked with digital calipers. Known for their smooth, controlled writing characteristics, S.T. Dupont gold nibs offer a refined writing experience. To preserve its collector-grade status, the nib has never been inked or dipped.
The pen utilizes S.T. Dupont's cartridge/converter filling system, allowing the flexibility of both bottled ink and cartridges. The included converter has been tested with water and functions exactly as designed.
Included is the complete original presentation with the factory boxes, warranty cards, literature, and ink cartridges. As a note for accuracy, there is some wear to the exterior presentation box, specifically to portions of the gold foil decoration and lettering.
Today, S.T. Dupont limited editions from the 1990s have developed a loyal following among collectors who appreciate their combination of artistry, luxury, and relatively low production numbers. Finding a Teatro is uncommon; finding one that remains Never Inked, complete, and preserved in this level of condition is considerably rarer.
A magnificent fusion of Parisian luxury, theatrical artistry, and fine craftsmanship—preserved exactly as collectors hope to discover one.
