For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Limited Edition Visconti Maki-e Limited Edition Fountain Pen of the Dragon & Phoenix from the "Supernatural Creatures" series collection fitted with an 18K / 750 Broad Two-Tone Nib. This Visconti fountain pen has never seen ink and is considered in New Old Stock, Mint Condition, in its Presentation case along with all the documentation.
NOTE: The below language is from the Visconti International Warranty Document: "Chinese tradition classified all animals into four categories, each group represented by a mythological beast. Scaly animals like the fish and the snake were symbolized by a Dragon. Feathered animals were depicted as a Phoenix. Furry animals like cats and dogs were represented by a unicorn, and shelled animals by a Tortoise. Dragon, Phoenix, Unicorn and Tortoise were considered 'Supernatural Creatures' with the Dragon leading the pack. Visconti interpreted this theme with great creativity, by creating a collection of four fountain pens in Limited Editions all dedicated to the 'Supernatural Creatures'. As we did not want to limit our collection only to China, we have developed the concept to the Japanese Mythology, to the ancient Egypt and Greece. In this way, the collection has become more international, as it includes some of the most representative cultures of the human civilization. Of course, the subjects here represented, as the dragon and the phoenix— or as the next ones, which are still secret at the moment—have a strong emotional impact and could be easily represented with the Maki-e technique, indeed they are all almost a symbol of the different cultures, which they belong to. Our master, Soukou Oshita, has worked together with us for the study of the patterns, adding a traditional touch of Japanese taste, which suits perfectly— in our opinion— if added to such a traditional painting technique."
Visconti brings the artistry of the Far East to the shores of Italy. Various Maki-e techniques such as Taka and Raden are hand-painted onto an Urushi lacquered celluloid barrel. The Dragon & Phoenix is the first of a series of four Maki-E pens based on Eastern Supernatural Creatures to be produced by Visconti.
This Visconti Dragon & Phoneix is in uninked, mint condition with no wear, enamel loss, dings, dents, scratching, or repairs. The cap type is a "threaded" type that secures to the barrel every time. This fountain pen measures 5 3/5" capped and 6 3/4" posted, has a diameter of 16mm around the cap banding, and weighs 1.41 ounces.
This fountain pen is a Limited Edition 61 of 188 and is marked on the barrel as seen in the photos.
The nib is marked Visconti with 18K/750 Broad Two-Tone Nib. The nib has a Broad point measuring 1.10mm when using digital calipers. I have never inked this pen and wanted to keep it in uninked, New Old Stock condition for the next owner.
This Visconti uses the patented "power-fill" plunger filling system. I tested it with water and fills as it was designed.
The Dragon & Phoenix Fountain Pen comes with the original display box that you see in the images, the plastic sleeve the pen came in, the Visconti Literature, and the Visconti Warranty Card all of which are in excellent condition.
The colors and workmanship on this fountain pen are a sight to behold. It is just a spectacular example and a scarce writing instrument that makes a statement in one's Visconti collection! Again, this one is in Mint, Never Inked condition! Retail was $9500 when this was purchased by the original owner.
