For your consideration we are offering for sale this Restored 1920s Waterman 0552 1/2 18K Gold Filled Smooth Overlay Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized, #16 silicone sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Waterman Ideal Cap & Clip, Barrel and Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Ideal New York 14K #2 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with a 18K Gold Filled Smooth Overlay. The 18K Gold Filled Overlay is smooth, no pattern or design to the overlay. The hard rubber portion of the pen displays a deep, classy black color. The barrel end has a fair imprint that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG U.S. PAT. OFF. MADE IN USA". The butt end of the fountain pen has a light 0552 1/2 imprint.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the barrel or cap. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. The 18K gold filled overlay looks beautiful with brassing. This Waterman 0552 1/2 measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 1/2" posted. The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever is crisp and clean.

The NIB is a 14K #2 Waterman Ideal New York NIB. It writes extremely smooth, I cannot emphasize this enough, it has amazing flexibility! When measuring the actual tip of the 14K Ideal NIB, it measured at .68mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a double extra fine line measuring roughly .22mm with very light pressure and flexes up to triple broad plus stroke of approximately 2.62mm with medium to firm pressure, I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue - Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is an exceptional, antique Waterman's 0552 1/2 Fountain Pen that is in ready to write condition using the crazy, wet noodle, flexible NIB. I would grade this Waterman 0552 1/2 in excellent condition. A superb writing instrument to add to your writing arsenal collection!
