1920S WATERMAN 452 STERLING OVERLAY FOUNTAIN PEN F to BBB+ FLEX NIB RESTORED

$425.00
For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored 1920s Waterman 452 Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with Sterling Silver Overlay. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized, #16 rubber sac. Hand polished the Sterling Waterman Ideal Cap & Clip, Barrel and Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Ideal 14K #2 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with Sterling Silver Overlay. The sterling silver overlay is known as a basket weave pattern. The hard rubber portion of the pen displays a deep, classy black color. The barrel end has a crisp imprint that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG U.S. PAT. OFF. MADE IN USA". The butt end of the fountain pen has a crisp 452 imprint.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. Note there are some very minor scratching towards the top of the cap. There are no monograms or personalizations on the barrel and there is a cartouche area that has been left untouched. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. The sterling overlay looks beautiful, with some light scratching that commensurates with the age of the pen. This Waterman 452 measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 5/8" posted. The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever is crisp and clean.

The NIB is a 14K #2 Ideal Waterman NIB. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K Ideal NIB, it measured at .68mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .53mm with very light pressure and flexes up to triple broad stroke of approximately 2.10mm+ with a firm to medium pressure, I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is an exceptional, antique Waterman's 452 Fountain Pen that is in ready to write condition using the lovely flexible NIB. I would grade this Waterman 452 in excellent condition and is a collector grade Waterman. A superb writing instrument to add to your writing arsenal collection!
