Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Restored 1920s Waterman's 52 Red Ripple Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with 18K Gold Filled Trim. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized, #17 silicone sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Cap Banding and 18K Gold Filled Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Ideal 14K #2 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the red ripple design. The coloring is an amazing red and black color. The barrel has a very crisp imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFFICE FOUNTAIN PEN RIPPLE". The butt end of the fountain pen has the 52 imprint.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There are no personalizations or monograms either the cap or the barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman 52 measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 3/4" posted.

The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever is crisp and clean; very little brassing on the arm portion of the lever. The Clip Cap Ideal Clip has some very minor brassing on the high point of the ball on the clip and the cap banding has only very slight brassing.

When measuring the actual tip of the 14K Ideal New York #2 NIB, it measured at .72mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with an extra fine line measuring roughly .44mm with very light pressure (on the horizontal strokes) and flexes up to 2.25mm (see image) with normal to medium pressure; I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is antique Waterman's 52 Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition using the incredible flexible NIB. I would consider the condition of this fountain in excellent condition and certainly a collector grade writing instrument.
