Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this Restored 1920s Waterman #7 Red Ripple Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with Yellow Cap Band & NIB. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized, rubber sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Cap Banding, Gold Filled Waterman Ideal Clip, 18K Gold Filled Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K YELLOW NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the red ripple design. The coloring is an amazing red and black color. The barrel has an almost non-existent imprint at the center of the barrel that reads that one can barely make out, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFFICE FOUNTAIN PEN RIPPLE". The lower portion of the barrel has an equally light imprint that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFFICE FOUNTAIN PEN" and the butt end of the fountain pen has a crisp 7 imprint.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has a replacement YELLOW banding. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman 7 measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 7 3/16" posted.

The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever are crisp and clean with some brassing on the lever. The Waterman Ideal Clip has just a very tiny amount of brassing on the ball of the clip. The gold filled cap banding displays some brassing on the lower half of the banding.

Here is the "fun" part of this fountain pen. The NIB is a Waterman Yellow NIB. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K Yellow NIB, it measures at .84mm with digital calipers. The NIB is in wonderful condition that writes with a fine/medium line to triple broad stoke plus. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine/medium line measuring roughly .59mm with very light pressure on the horizontal strokes and flexes up to 2.18mm with medium to firm pressure; I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is antique Waterman #7 Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition using the incredible flexible NIB. I would consider this fountain pen to be in very good user-grade condition and certainly a collector grade writing instrument.
